[lar'bo], Valéry, französischer Schriftsteller, * Vichy 29. 8. 1881, ✝ ebenda 2. 2. 1957; unternahm ausgedehnte Reisen und erwarb sich eine weltliterarische Bildung, die sich auch in seinem Hauptwerk, dem verschiedene Gattungen und Stile mischenden »A. O. Barnabooth. Ses œuvres complètes, c'est-à-dire: Un conte, ses poésies, et son journal intime« (1913; deutsch »A. O. Barnabooth. Tagebuch eines Milliardärs«) niederschlägt. Ein wichtiges literarhistorisches Dokument ist sein Tagebuch (»Journal«, 1955). Bedeutender Literaturkritiker und Übersetzer (besonders von J. Joyce).
